Example of the Temple

The temple has always been a special place to me. I have not taken advantage of it as much I should, but I still love when I am able to go. Having a toddler makes it less appealing to go to the temple because you’re exhausted and have to find a babysitter, but that shouldn’t be an excuse. Steven and I had resolved to go to the temple monthly before we got married and while we were better about it before we had Declan, we have been really bad about it in more recent years.
When thinking about the blessings that can be gained from temple attendance, I realized I needed to make it more of a priority in my life, whether I go with Steven or not. The peace and guidance that can be gained by entering that sacred building can help me as a person, a wife, and most importantly a mother.
While Declan is currently too young to grasp that I’m going to the temple, making it a habit in my life will help as he gets older. It will help him get excited to be baptized one day and even to enter that holy building for his own ordinances. Showing him that the temple is important to me will show him that I put God first. It will help him understand better who should always be at the center of our focus. And even if he strays, there will always be that voice in the back of his head reminding him what he’s always known because I made it a habit to regularly attend the temple.
