I finished up my diaper stacker yesterday! And it only took me two days to make it, despite it being a very frustrating project. I loosely based my pattern off the pattern given by the Sew4Home blog (link below).

So the first difference I made was the top part. They had a rounded top so that you could put a hanger in it. Well Steven and I had been at Buy Buy Baby and saw ones that actually tied on and I liked that a lot better. So I took the dimensions of their top and used it for mine, but made it rectangular. It took me two tries to get the straps right, but it turned out fine. I added velcro to the ends of the straps because they ended up being a little too short to tie, but it works better this way. I was worried that the ribbon would be to slippy and not tie well, so velcro was the perfect solution. Also as the top decoration I decided to make it even more personalized and bought iron-on letters to put his name on it.

I used the Superman fabric for the base and got a cute red and white striped fabric for the pockets. I originally wanted bigger stripes, but Walmart didn't have that. I think this turned out looking really good together though.

I used the same black ribbon as I used not only for the straps, but on the edges of the quilt for the center portion of the stacker. Now for the bottom, I sewed mine differently than they did, mostly because their instructions weren't always 100% clear. I pinned and sewed mine one edge at a time and then sewed the corner by hand. For the hard insert, I had Steven cut a rectangle out of the huge cardboard box that we had from our crib. I then slid it into a fabric pocket and sewed it in. Any excess fabric, I folded over and hot glued to the bottom.

I really am happy how it turned out. It already has diapers in it and diaper rash cream. We have wipes, but they are Costco sized so it's too thick to currently fit. Once Declan get's here I'll put them in a wipe holder so that they can go in the other pocket.

Like I said, this was a very challenging project for me, but I am glad I did it. It is so more personal than something I could have bought at any baby store.
